Punta Chivato

Punta Chivato Punta Chivato was made famous in the sixties, when it was the playground for the rich and famous. It was known as one of the most remote points of the Sea of Cortez offering ambiance and beauty. Miles of sand beaches around to the southwest of Punta Chivato invite shelling while estuaries, tide pools and rocky reefs teeming with the vivid colours of tropical fish beg beachcombers and divers alike to come and explore the beauty beneath.

Located at 113 miles north to Loreto's airport & 26 miles north to Mulege, it is still considered as very remote and a graded airstrip attracts private planes but aviation fuel is not available on a regular basis. The turn-off to Punta Chivato is at Kilometre 156 off Highway 1 between Santa Rosalia and Mulegé, then 20 kilometres by graded road to the Point. There is a small “tienda” (mini-store) at the west side of the Hotel (Hotel Posada de las Flores Punta Chivato). Serious shopping has to be done in Mulegé or Santa Rosalia.

The main attraction is the newly refurbished 1960’s Hotel Punta Chivato, now known as Hotel Posada de las Flores Punta Chivato. The new owners decided to invest in this land to make of this hotel an exclusive and secluded haven for people who love peace, tranquillity, sea and nature. The property covers an extension of 7.5 acres in front of the Sea. Decoration blends the desert landscapes and deep blue sea with the finest Mexican style.
