Los Cabo

Los Cabo Cabo san Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are the cities that form the tourist area of Los Cabos linked by a scenic and splendid seaside highway of 20 miles called the tourist corridor, located on the extreme south of the entity. It is 93 miles from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz via Todos Santos, whilst it is 113 miles from San Jose del Cabo to La Paz via the East Cape.

San Jose del Cabo, called “Anuiti” by the Pericues, was founded by Jesuit father Nicolas Tamaral in 1730 who was martyred and murdered on October 3rd of 1734 by rebel indigenous. Early this century, Cabo san Lucas was a fisherman’s village. In 1971 a north American company installed a floating plant for tuna exploitation, and 10 years later, the Marine Products Company was established, and for many years gave life to the village. The big attributes of Los Cabos area were not unprepared for the visionaries’ investors, locals and foreigners. But very soon, great and modern hotels arise in its coast and in 1974 the federal government through FONATUR gave a definite impulse, creating the infrastructure to turn it to one of the most beautiful integrally planned tourist centers of the country.

In a few years, Los Cabos reached a giddily development until it converted in one of the favorite beach destinations for the international tourism, with more than 6,500 hotel rooms in all categories. Added to this, along the corridor a crowd of high quality services, residential zones, condominiums, golf courses, tennis courts, trailer parks, restaurants, night clubs, bars, boutiques and everything that the most demanding tourist could wish.

Among its multiple attractions, some stand out: sport fishing for the abundance of species such as the Marlin (black, blue and striped), sail fish, sword fish, Dorado and yellow tail; its famous beaches such as Love, Medano and Hacienda, and the long beach of Costa Azul in San Jose. In most of them it is possible to practice most water sports, such as sailing, snorkeling, parasailing, wave runners. Ax far as diving, it is known for its Sand Falls, as well as the excitement often found further out in Gordo Banks.

Arriving to Los Cabos and enjoy its beauty is very easy as it is linked by several airlines through its international airport, bus depot, a marina with facilities for yachts and cruisers in Cabo san Lucas and the transpeninsular highway.
